Salary: circa £125,000

With one of the widest remits in Whitehall and playing a key role in ensuring markets work well for businesses, consumers and workers there could not be a more exciting and challenging time to join the leadership team of the Department for Business, Energy and International Strategy (BEIS).
The role of Director General, Energy and Strategy, one of the largest jobs in Whitehall, is a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional strategic leader to help shape the Department and play a critical role in advising Ministers and implementing policy on issues including energy security, oil and gas, networks and markets, clean electricity, new nuclear development and nuclear decommissioning and resilience. In particular, you will play a key part in the continued roll out of major energy development projects, as well as managing the energy system, being the senior responsible officer for work on exiting Euratom and external energy market aspects of EU exit, and overseeing £5bn of annual expenditure.
Highly articulate and credible at the most senior of levels, you will have outstanding leadership skills and a track record of leading a portfolio of major projects and programmes, sound commercial acumen and a strong policy background. Experience of the current energy environment or the ability to very quickly get to speed with a complex policy area is also required.
