This position will appeal to an experienced proactive Lean manufacturing professional who is capable of further developing a continuous improvement culture in a low volume, high quality, specialist products and systems manufacturing company.
Our client is an award winning SME, a manufacturer of custom and niche gas detection products for a broad ranging customer base. It has in excess of 3,500 SKUs and manufactures from a single site on a variable batch production basis which includes lots of bespoke elements and utilises mixed technologies; mechanical, electrical, electronic and software. It exports its product globally and has a reputation for the quality of its design, technical competence and product innovation. It would like to further develop the use of lean tools and techniques taking ‘good-to-great’ and focussing on continuous learning at all levels reducing waste and adding value. It has significant plans for growth in the next 3 years.
Reporting to the Managing Director the role carries responsibility for a team and a highly skilled workforce which includes managers in manufacturing, production engineering, logistics and supply chain. Early priorities are to ensure that the manufacturing plan is met continually and that right first time quality and the lean approach is embedded into the culture. Success should lead to a rewarding long-term career and a Director level position in the short to medium term.
A candidate with a real ability in change management, lean skills, excellent team leadership and a people oriented coaching style is required. You will need to have a good quality University degree probably in an Engineering discipline and you will have been trained in a large world class manufacturing company; your experience will include batch production which incorporates mechanical, electrical, electronic and software elements. You will have a firm grasp of world class quality, health & safety and you will also identify with the company’s strong belief in customer service, employee fulfilment, open communications and positive leadership.
