The University of Edinburgh has a distinguished history dating back to the sixteenth century and is consistently rated as one of the world’s best. The University is seeking an experienced Finance Director with the strategic, operational and leadership capabilities to provide excellent financial guidance and stewardship, as the institution develops into the future. The Director of Finance will have the ability to engage not just across the senior management team, but also with the University Court and key external stakeholders. Candidates will be able to develop the day-to-day effectiveness of the finance function and demonstrate the capability to lead on key strategic objectives related to finance and delivery of change. They will also be able to respond quickly to the changing economic and political environment in Scotland, the UK and internationally.
The appointed candidate will play a key role as a member of the University’s senior team, taking forward strategic priorities, including enhancing student experience, delivering research that addresses global challenges, expanding international impact, delivering capital programme developments, and growing commercial and knowledge exchange activities. There will be a strong emphasis on developing excellence in all of these areas, on team leadership and on the provision of outstanding advice to the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and the Audit and Planning & Resources Committees. This role will report directly to the Principal of the University.
Whilst experience of working within higher education is not a pre-requisite, candidates must be able to demonstrate the cultural flexibility to play a key role in the leadership of an important, wide-ranging and complex organisation.
