Finance Bursar - Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford
Founded in 1517, Corpus Christi is one of Oxford's older and smaller colleges, with its ancient buildings among the most beautiful in Oxford. A registered charity with an annual turnover of approximately £9m, the College has invested-assets in the mid-range of colleges but has ambitions to increase significantly the size of its endowment and revenue return.
The Bursar is the College’s senior financial officer and an Official Fellow and Trustee of the College. He or she is a member of the Governing Body, supporting them in their deliberations and advising on risk-management and the long-term financial position of the College.
The primary requirement is for someone financially astute, who is able to safeguard, and grow, the College’s endowment. A background in managing investments or related financial services roles may be likely, but the Bursar must also have the experience and technical ability to lead on financial planning and oversee the production of College accounts.
Whilst experience is important, it will be the personality and style of the successful candidate that will be a deciding factor. It is vital that the Bursar has understanding and sympathy with the College’s primary academic mission. He or she will need to get on well with colleagues, staff, students, donors and alumni and have the intellectual credibility to command respect from academic colleagues.
This is a wide-ranging and interesting opportunity, combining financial leadership and asset management with broader responsibilities in a friendly and successful academic community.
