The Coal Authority is a non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Our legacy mission is to protect the public and the environment in mining areas, by providing expert advice, creative and agile solutions and evaluate the impacts of mining from all angles. We have over 20 years’ experience in public services and managing property, safety and environment risks and are aiming to be a world leader in resolving the impacts of mining. This long term legacy work is managed by a grant in aid from BEIS and is approaching £3 billion.
We have, over the past five years began a transformation journey to enable us to deliver our statutory duties side by side as well as serve our increasing customer base.

The Coal Authority now seeks to appoint an exceptional Head of Business Development to lead the growth of the organisation’s business development programme. This is a really exciting time to join us as we continue to transform and expand our range of commercial products and services to developers, infrastructure providers, homebuyers and internationally.
Candidates for this role will bring an outstanding track record of sales or business development experience in a technical environment. You will bring the credibility, gravitas and expertise to engage and build relationships with senior level stakeholders. Applications will be welcomed from those who are self-motivated and target driven, with strong commercial acumen and the successful candidate will also have the ability to lead, develop and motivate a team.
A willingness to travel extensively in the UK, and occasionally internationally, will be essential. The Head of Business Development will lead a team from the Coal Authority’s headquarters in Mansfield, however there is a high degree of flexibility as to where this person may be located.
