Lloyd’s starts underwriting EEA risks in January 2019 so plans for the new Brussels subsidiary are running at pace.  

The new role of Chief Underwriting Officer is a member of the Executive Committee and will be located in the Brussels office. It will be a key appointment in the Brussels team and within Lloyd’s Underwriting function.

Leading a small underwriting unit and working between strategy preparation through to personal delivery, the post holder will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading this strategically important office.

Reporting to the Brussels CEO and with a second reporting line to the Head of Class of Business in London, the Chief Underwriting Officer’s accountabilities will include:

  • Leading a delegated underwriting strategy by setting business plans, leading the underwriting strategy and the delivery, performance managing the function, identifying underwriting process improvements and change.
  • Establishing partnerships, cultivating relationships, working with many and diverse stakeholders, internally and externally. Reviewing and approving or declining underwriting referrals.
  • Delivering a profitable and prudent underwriting strategy through astute portfolio management and effective governance. 

Ideal candidates will have pricing and reserving experience, currently holding a leadership role within a portfolio, treaty or delegated business, within insurance or reinsurance.

Highly influential and capable of delivering to a significant business of the highest standards, candidates will have gained experience of successfully delivering underwriting strategy, ideally having worked across a variety of insurance classes that could include P&C, GI, SME or other specialist classes, within Insurance or Reinsurance.
