Our client, a major technology solution provider, is seeking a Programme Director to develop the Programme and Project Management standards and capabilities of their organisation. As required the Programme Director will guide, establish and mobilise the largest and most complex programmes, and recover struggling programmes to protect the financial, commercial and reputational risks of the organisation. This newly created role can be based from a variety of UK locations, and will include UK-wide travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To take accountability for the successful delivery of projects of very high complexity, or otherwise high profile, high-risk programmes by directing, leading and driving programme delivery
  • Establishing a coherent and optimal programme team and programme governance structure, engaging the customer and subcontractors at leadership and executive levels to promote and influence a collaborative programme delivery culture
  • Coaching, guiding and directing project managers and project teams, to ensure that effective project controls and project management best practice are established and maintained for all work-streams and projects within the programme span of control, and that all projects and work-streams conform with the organisation's Programme and Project Management Policy
  • Leading by example, being visible and accessible, and setting the tone and pace for the programme by clearly communicating programme goals and success criteria, clearly specifying required outcomes and establishing priorities
  • Facilitating and promoting the effective engagement of customer, subcontractor, third party and business stakeholders throughout the programme delivery, verifying that positive, enduring relationships are being developed and nurtured
  • Ensuring that a clear understanding of each work stream and projects’ progress, plans, risk and status are regularly, clearly and accurately reported, remediating conflicts and exceptions whenever necessary

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

  • Educated to degree level with current qualification in Project and Programme Management
  • Member of the Association for Project Management
  • Proven track record as a Programme Director within a complex international organisation, with full end to end responsibility for Programme delivery
  • Experience with leading large, complex business change programmes within a matrix environment
  • Track record of leading programme of cultural change, educating stakeholders as to new ways of working
  • Demonstrable project management knowledge, skills and expertise, with knowledge of both Waterfall and Agile, Prince 2 and ITIL principles
  • Evidence of project budgets in the region or excess of £5 million at any point in time
  • Evidence of having built a project or programme management capability
  • Track record of having engaged subcontractors, establishing governance and assuring subcontractor delivery and performance
  • Previous experience of a leadership role within a comparable consulting/client-delivery focused environment
