Rare opportunity to join one of the world’s most successful creative services businesses with a 20 year pedigree in creating outstanding content for film and television.

The Commercial Director is newly created role, driving a new team that will report directly to the inspirational CEO of this 1,200 person multinational media / tech business. The concept has been formulated to help the business harness its expertise to develop and monetise new opportunities, reflecting a process that all creative services firms are going through at the moment. They are migrating from a service orientated proposition to one that offers technical and creative solutions direct to major brands. This will include the development of technology, the benchmarking of new content opportunities that this creates, and ultimately licensing to generate new streams of high margin, repeat business.  

This key role will be responsible for developing, negotiating and closing commercial proposals and contracts. This will require understanding clients’ requirements, interpreting solutions and applying clear strategic thinking to allow the client to sign off.  This is not a sales role and we are not looking for salespeople, rather former accountants or lawyers who are likely to have worked in senior commercial positions within a marketing services or other professional services firm. This should allow you to distill a sophisticated topic into a commercial proposition that becomes a “no-brainer” for a client.

This role will also have operational oversight of the division, including tracking all elements of the P&L, capex, R&D, marketing and general resourcing. 

Applications are invited from individuals who must have extensive experience of working directly with clients in an agency (or other human capital business), where they will have learned the structure and procedures which will give them the foundation to navigate commercial and licensing proposals. However, as stated earlier, this is not a sales role. Rather we need candidates who are well versed in contracts, possibly contract law, who take a consultative approach and guide clients towards the right decision through reasoned intellectual arguments.

You will also need great interpersonal and presentation skills, capable of developing strong working relationships at all levels of both client and agency.

A Commercial Director / Manager from an advertising or media agency is probably the ideal background, and this position is a far more exciting option than merely joining a competitor agency on a better package. The successful applicant will be afforded a truly entrepreneurial role to play, the chance to fundamentally change the business model of one of the most respected media businesses in London.
