The Role

The Technology Director will report directly to the Group MD and will be a key member and contributor of the Executive Team. The person appointed will lead the international software and hardware systems teams on a day to day basis. They will take overall responsibility for the strategic technology development plans and successfully manage the implementation and delivery of those plans. This will encompass new product and market development to exploit opportunities in existing and new customers internationally.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially orientated technology leader to take the business to its next stage. Key focus will be in the growth and development of higher value products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the technology teams to further build on an already established business reputation for innovation and quality. Providing their global customer base with state-of-the-art electronic products.
  • To lead the research and development arm of the organisation and to play a key part in the desire to meet customers’ expectations and provide the innovation of technology to achieve the forecasted growth plans
  • The Technology Director position will have full responsibility for all technical matters related to the design, test, delivery and sign off for manufacture of high volume outsourced manufactured products. 
  • To be the Group’s senior technical authority in front of customers
  • To manage customers’ expectations on specifications, costs, delivery times and quality demands with our client’s own internal capabilities, whilst ensuring that all internal departments continually move in a forward motion regarding innovation, efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • The organisation prides itself on developing its own so a hands-on approach to research and development will also play a major part in this role. 
  • Duties will include managing an international team of 20+ Technical Engineers specialising in embedded software and hardware systems.
  • The role will ensure collective team work between all parties to deliver a range of high-tech products form concept through to production, with the elimination of faults, waste and customers returns. 
  • Lead and contribute to the development of the Technology operating model and strategy Collaborating with leadership and Executive Team to ensure that technology, policies, standards and tools effectively support the achievement of strategic business goals
  • Lead the strategic product teams to understand emerging customer and business requirements and translate those into roadmaps for the delivery of new services
  • Providing technology vision and consultation aligned to strategic plan
  • Ensure that the skills of the R&D teams are exploited for maximum commercial success
  • To prepare and present to the board an annual Technology Development Plan
  • Ensuring that the organisation gets the best value for money from all its technology investments
  • Build productive relationships with other Senior Management Team and Executive colleagues
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources to maintain smooth financial operation and long-term fiscal health of Technology 

Experience Required:

  • Candidates will have experience of successfully leading technology teams in the development and commercialisation of related electronic products.
  • Extensive Research & Development leadership experience Software and hardware design experience with embedded operating systems with understanding of formal risk management techniques
  • Experience in coordinating successful project delivery on time and to budget Experience in risk appraisal 
  • Have had exposure to dealing with overseas suppliers and manufacturing facilities
  • Have a proven background in delivering major projects with such factors as cost, legislation, reliability and time considerations
  • To maintain a watching brief on industry research and innovation identifying future technology solutions
