The Tipton & Coseley (‘The Society’) is a successful, contemporary independent Building Society founded in 1901 in the offices of a local solicitor. They have progressed considerably since then and are now situated in modern purpose built headquarters in the heart of the West Midlands with assets of over £370m, circa 85 employees based out of four primary locations (Tipton, Coseley, Bilston and Sedgley), and some 40,000 members which transact primarily through their branches.
The Society’s strategy of keeping things simple and sticking to its core values stands up well and continues to appeal to existing and new members. Their principal objective is to provide members with a safe and secure home for their savings, and to help people buy their own home through the provision of residential mortgages. The Society continues to invest in its long-term growth and prosperity both in terms of resource and through the implementation of the Society’s digital strategy. The Society’s digital strategy is a long-term vision to ensure that they can continue to meet the needs of customers by providing a greater choice in how they do business with the Society.
The Society is looking to appoint a new Finance Director to help to build upon the Society’s strong heritage and to play a lead role in all aspects of the running of the Society, bringing fresh thinking and appropriate challenge to the Board, contributing to the strategy, growth and future success of the business. This is a high profile role within the organisation with significant direct/indirect influence across the wider business. Reporting to the Chief Executive the post holder’s remit is to deliver responsive, business-orientated financial analysis to the Board and CEO, providing accurate, timely and transparent financial information and interpretation of that information to support effective business decision-making, and to meet statutory requirements. The Finance Director will be responsible for all of the Society’s Prudential regulatory reporting; additionally you will sit as a Member on the Society’s Assets and Liabilities Committee.
We seek an ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified Accountant with a progressive career gained within an accountancy firm (Big4/Top Tier) and/or financial services business. You will have a thorough understanding of the financial services environment and the issues facing Building Societies; in particular a detailed understanding of credit and treasury risk matters would be highly advantageous. Experience of working at a Director/Board level exercising a breadth of functional leadership and strategic insight beyond purely the finance function is desirable. Technical knowledge of the regulatory environment is paramount.
This role falls under the scope of the Senior Manager Regime and is a Senior Management Function (SMF), and as such will be subject to PRA/FCA approval requiring individuals to undergo a Significant Influence Functions (SIF) interview.
