Job Details

Diocese of Oxford
Diocesan Secretary

A rare opportunity has arisen in the Diocese of Oxford for our next Diocesan Secretary, the chief operating officer for the Diocese and principle strategic adviser to the Bishop of Oxford.

The Diocese of Oxford is a living, growing network of more than a thousand parish churches, chaplaincies and schools extending across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. More than 50,000 people worship in over 800 parish churches each week and make a significant impact across villages, towns, cities and the world in their daily discipleship and witness. Together, our schools educate more than 75,000 children for life in all its fullness.  Our chaplains serve universities and schools, prisons, hospitals and the armed forces and our churches support more than 1,700 social action projects, partnering with other agencies to serve all those who are lonely or disadvantaged.

In this varied and exciting environment we are exploring together what it means to be a more Christ-like Church for the sake of God’s world: contemplative, compassionate and courageous. We have also begun to work on seven focus areas for the Diocese in this next period of our common life. Our common vision is vibrant and well-developed, and we are deeply committed to partnership, whether it is between churches, schools and parishes or working with communities and leaders of other denominations and faiths.

This is a hands-on leadership role, not for the faint hearted! As our Diocesan Secretary you will be a passionate, confident and credible Christian leader, able to work with and through others to enable the mission of God to thrive in the Diocese of Oxford. Working alongside an able and committed group of senior colleagues you will lead the development and effective delivery of our strategic priorities.

If this sounds like you and you have a passion to see people grow and flourish, then we would love to hear from you.
