April 2014 saw the official launch of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the successor body to the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading. This new organisation will build on the existing work of the UK competition authorities to promote competition, within and outside the UK. Our mission is to make markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy. We have set ourselves the goal of becoming even better - as a world-leading competition and consumer authority. For those who join us at this formative time it offers a uniquely exciting professional opportunity.

This important role offers the chance to contribute to our work in two fundamental ways. First, you’ll play a crucial  role in investigations, gathering information and providing analysis and advice on complex cases and second, you’ll be integral in shaping our response, including developing and implementing any remedies and drafting reports for publication. Cases will pose varying challenges, but will all focus on business issues in merger, market, regulatory and competition act inquiries. We’ll also expect you to play a significant role in improving CMA’s overall performance and expertise, whether on a project or other basis.

There’s no question that we’re expecting significant expertise in analysis, insight and advice, so you must have an excellent academic record, preferably in economics, maths or a science subject. A professional accountancy qualification, or an MBA with a strong financial bias, is also essential. This solid foundation will have been enhanced by extensive business/analytical experience in a relevant context, where you’ll have developed a demonstrable grasp of strategic and commercial business processes. Commercially and financially astute, with strong analytical and quantitative skills, your collaborative approach and exceptional ability to communicate will set you apart.

This role offers real scope for professional development and will suit individuals who are driven yet enjoy working in a collegiate, professional team. At the heart of the CMA, you will be ideally placed to identify and benefit from opportunities for career progression across the organisation. In the CMA you'll discover a working environment where there is real emphasis on working together to deliver to the very highest standards. We have an excellent benefits package, including an attractive pension scheme, and encourage a healthy work/life balance.

To find out more about this opportunity please apply on the CMA website.
