Director of Commercial and Finance
Salary – Attractive six-figure package with public sector pension
Location – London
Your commercial and financial leadership will shape the Met and the future of London.
The Metropolitan Police Service is made up of 32,000 police officers and 14,000 police staff and police community support officers. Through the dedication and commitment of this exceptional team, we help to keep London safe.
With a requirement to reduce costs by over £600m whilst improving performance at all levels – as well as the confidence of Londoners in their Met – we have embarked on a wide-ranging and ambitious programme of transformation affecting all areas of the organisation. It’s an exciting opportunity to introduce a more commercial approach to our work and to make greater use of the market to deliver services.
This is a high-profile, strategic position. Sitting on the MPS Management Board, you will play a leading role in enabling the transformation programme to be a success, in addition to taking overall responsibility for the Finance, Procurement and Estates HQ teams. It involves enabling senior operational colleagues to understand the costs and value of the services they provide and how they can improve efficiency and effectiveness. You will also develop and implement a new commercial strategy that will put competitive pressure into the delivery of non-core policing services, while personally driving substantially better value from existing and new contracts.
A natural leader, your background needs to be impressive. You should be as comfortable developing and implementing strategy as you are with understanding and driving operational performance. Ideally, you will have membership of CIMA/CIPS or an appropriate professional qualification. Financially astute, your strengths lie in procurement strategy transformation, contract management, outsourcing negotiations and supplier relationship management. Your influencing and communication skills are also exceptional.

Closing Date: 17 February 2014
We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
