Do you have regulatory experience? Can you lead operational teams with real flair? If so, there could be an exciting opportunity for you at the General Medical Council — as our Head of Revalidation.
The General Medical Council is the independent regulator for doctors in the UK. It’s our job to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine. We do that by controlling entry to the medical register and by setting standards for medical training. We also deal firmly and fairly with doctors whose fitness to practise is in doubt.
Revalidation is just one of the ways we’re working to deliver extra confidence to patients. It refers to the process by which licensed doctors are required to demonstrate on a regular basis that they are up to date and fit to practise. Despite only starting in December 2012, it’s already now one of our biggest initiatives — which is why we’re looking for an experienced professional to lead and manage it.
We have a 16-strong operational team dedicated exclusively to revalidation; it will be down to you to lead, motivate and inspire them. Through effective day-to-day management, you’ll ensure the team consistently meets the targets set out in their service level agreements. You’ll also find new ways to make our processes smarter and handle our relationships with external bodies. Where appropriate, you’ll also intervene and provide initial arbitration on decisions contested by doctors.
This is a newly created role that will see you reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Revalidation. To succeed, you’ll need to have a strong track record of managing operational teams in a challenging regulatory environment. Confident and credible, you’ll know how to motivate people, how to manage processes and how to deliver results within a complex regulatory framework. Now, you’ll be keen to bring that talent and experience to a role that will see you further strengthening medical standards.
In return, we’ll make sure you’re properly rewarded. As well as a competitive salary, we’ll offer you a 30 day holiday allowance, defined contribution pension scheme, health screens, private medical insurance, interest-free season ticket loans, discounted gym membership and more. Based at our attractive offices in Manchester, you’ll also find yourself in a friendly and supportive work environment.
