The demand for Non-Executive Directors has never been higher – are you making the most of this growing market?
Executive Grapevine, September 2006
Betty Thayer is Chief Executive of exec-appointments.com.
Three years on from the Higgs Report on the role of Non-Executive Directors, and the subsequent changes to the
Combined Code, more and more companies, particularly in the private company arena, are making the decision to
have a structured board with at least one non-executive. It is highly likely that many of your clients are interested
in expanding their reach in terms of candidates but have not spoken to you about this because they see you in terms
of the services you have always provided.
The internet provides you with a unique opportunity to open up your search practice to include this interesting and
expanding area, both for public and private companies as well as public sector bodies and charities.
The Non-Executive Director at www.non-execs.com has over 1,200 active members who have registered profiles and
are interested in discussing non-executive roles. Through our network of Recommended Recruitment Associates and
our own research efforts, we have provided access to over 1,000 non-executive roles since 2003.
The service has been provided in association with Ernst & Young since launch, giving access to the FTSE 250 directors
and non-executives who are interested in relevant and current topics.
We are delighted to announce that The Telegraph is also sponsoring the service and will be advertising the service and
our regional networking seminars in the Thursday Business section starting in September. This exciting new partnership
will extend the service’s reach substantially, as well as provide another cost-effective way to advertise in a print/online package.

A core strength of non-execs.com is the quality of the affiliates whose membership have special access to the service.
In September the CIPD joins as an affiliate – if you are a member of the CIPD you will be receiving information on this
special offer soon. Other affiliates include the ACCA, the Marketing Society and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
This fall we are participating in a variety of events you may be interested in attending.
During October, November and December we will be holding a series of networking seminars for aspiring and experienced non-executives.
This is an excellent opportunity to invite either clients or candidates to meet others interested in this area and hear the latest about this rapidly
changing market. Seminars will be held in Newcastle, Cardiff, Reading and three in London. Visit non-execs.com to learn more.
In September and November Cranfield University School of Management will be holding two, two-day seminars for non-executives. Led by Professor Murray
Steele, they are an intensive and fast-paced way to come up to speed quickly – and meet a wide range of leading speakers and executives.
