Job description:
About us
BBC Monitoring is an open source news and information publisher. Around the clock, our journalists compile news and information and comment on reaction from the world press, radio, TV and the Internet. Reports are translated into English from more than 100 languages. The rapid transcription, collation and distribution of this information enable us to provide insightful and reliable coverage of political, economic, security and media news. Through enhanced capabilities, we are currently building on our core area of expertise in geo-political change and open source media to devise exciting, innovative propositions opening up a range of new markets to us.
About the role
As Product Innovation and Development Manager based in Caversham (Reading), you’ll be integral to achieving this through identifying opportunities for, and leading development of high quality products.
You’ll be the single point of ownership for new product projects, managing new products from idea, to conception, and through commercialisation using a stage gate process. Therefore, you’ll own the project business case from inception through to product launch and post commercialisation, building and managing complex project plans across all business functions. In addition, you’ll collect, develop and refine product attributes and requirements with input from relevant stakeholders (for example, customers, internal expertise, management board, and the wider BBC), whilst being able to track and analyse competitors. We’ve identified four prioritised areas for proposition – social media, early warning, data analysis and validation, bespoke products. You will bridge the gap between business strategy and the delivery of innovative digital products, developing a truly compelling set of propositions.
About you
You’ll bring strong knowledge of editorial production processes, quality control, costing, and other techniques for maximizing the effective production of output. Supplementing this will be your knowledge of editorial and visualisation techniques and tools in the media industry, alongside knowledge of the principles and methods for promoting and selling products. In this regard, you’ll have proven relationship management skills, showing an ability to negotiate, influence and network, particularly with 3rd parties. You’ll have a proven project management track record, excelling in all aspects of managing digital products. This will include senior level product and service level development experience within the online news and information sector.
